Best of 2010 CompPosted by Richard Paul on December 29th, 2010 @ 10:39 pm

These are the songs that I listened to most addictively in the order of which they appeared on a Comp throughout the year 2010 (the only exception being Grails’ “Up All Night” which snuck in just before the close of the year and prior to the next Comp being released).

On the RadioPosted by Richard Paul on November 12th, 2010 @ 1:13 pm

UPDATE 9/12/2011: I have moved to Sundays from 6am to 9am central. See more details here and read about how you can hear the songs I play on the air at your convenience if you can’t listen live.
UPDATE 12/17/2010: I now have a regular shift on CHIRP. Starting January 8th, you can catch me live on the air every Saturday from 6am to 9am central.
If you haven’t already heard through the comps4jenna mailing list or various social networks then I am here to tell you that I have recently been enlisted by the Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP) to serve as a DJ sub. Possibly down the road I will get a regular shift, but as of right now I only go on the air when I am needed and available. With this newly obtained privilege I plan to share with all of you my musical findings of recent and my favorites of old. You’ll be hearing all of those songs that I sift through as I’m in the process of sifting through them for Comp production. My hopes are that some of you fall in love with those songs that unfortunately end up just short of making it into the Comp limelight. You’ll be hearing tracks from the mysterious Comps 1-4 and even older. This will also be your chance to hear what I actually sound like and get to know me a little better as I am forced to interact with you during my broadcast and can’t refrain – as I’ve done on this blog (for the most part) – from personal meanderings. However, it will be and always has been about the music. I’m very excited to have another outlet for sharing wonderful songs with others and I hope all of you find it as enjoyable as I’m going to.
An up-to-date list of my upcoming DJ shifts will be keptMore information is provided on the CHIRP widget in the sidebar of this blog. You can also use the aforementioned mailing list and social networks to receive notification alerts of these shiftsjust before I go on the air. Lastly, I want to state for the record that comps4jenna will not be placed on the backburner at all on account of this new affiliation.
Very sincerely, thanks for listening – now in more ways than one!

Twin SisterPosted by Richard Paul on July 16th, 2010 @ 3:29 pm

Twin Sister (Comp 43 and 45) is that little band that can. Dreamscape instrumentals along with whispering singing in your ear just as you’re drifting off, you’ll be wondering where this band’s been hiding all your indie-listening life. The perfect blend of pop and psychedelic, not letting either direction define them. Rather, Twin Sister is redefining easy-listening with their cool guitar, warm keyboards, even warmer bass, dulled drumming and that sweet, playful singing. The band is coming soon to a town near you in the U.S. and for those overseas, you’ll have to visit them at their website and myspace until they branch out internationally. For local comps4jenna listeners in Chicago, Twin Sister will be opening tomorrow night at Lincoln Hall during Bear in Heaven‘s Pitchfork Festival aftershow.
